Auckland is home to many Polynesian people. Learn about Māori history at the Auckland War Memorial Museum. Explore Waitemata Harbour and the Auckland Volcanoes, including Rangitoto. In 1841, Parnell became New Zealand's first suburb with historic buildings still standing like Whitby Lodge and Hulme Court on Parnell Rd.

Drive through Wynyard Quarter to Westhaven Marina. Cross the Harbour Bridge for a city skyline view. Return over the bridge. Drive along Jervois and Ponsonby Roads, viewing the highlights. Continue to Mt Eden (Maungawhau in maori) for a 15-minute walk up the extinct volcano, offering stunning views. Head to Mountain Rd, passing Auckland Grammar to the Domain and Auckland Museum. Drive past the High Court and old government house on university grounds. Along Stanley St, up Parnell Rise, to Holy Trinity Cathedral, then down St Stephens Ave to view beautiful houses. Paritai Drive houses Auckland's most expensive mansion, sold for $39 million. Drive along the waterfront to Kohimaramara and St Heliers, reaching Achilles Point for scenic views of the harbour. Alternatively, visit Bastion Point, where Labour Prime Minister Michael Joseph Savage is buried.
